Linda Helen Bennett was born in July 1964, the first child of Harvey Bennett, Jr., and the granddaughter of Harvey F. and Frances L. Bennett. She remembers spending weekends and vacations at the El Toro ranch, fishing in the reservoir, and chasing rabbits among the orange trees. She also remembers sleeping in the girl’s blue bedroom with her sister (it was COLD!). She is a lawyer and now lives with her husband in Carpinteria, California.

The Saddleback Area Historical Society was formed in 1973 and became involved in efforts to save historic structures from destruction as the old town of El Toro rapidly disappeared with the subdivision of the area. Negotiations for acquisition of El Toro's first church, St. George's Episcopal Mission (1891), and the first schoolhouse, the El Toro Grammar School (1890), resulted in successful fund-raising in the community to finance moving these buildings to the Heritage Hill Historical Serrano Adobe site in 1976.
The SAHS has hosted events such as the Pioneer Roundup, which highlights the contributions of Saddleback Valley settlers. The SAHS also has a partnership with the Moulton Museum, which opened in September 2022 and features exhibits about Saddleback pioneers.
Sun, bustles and bonnets, teas, and variety of delectable treats shaped our event as one to be remembered. We were fortunate to have as guest speaker Jacque Tahuka Nunez a descendant of the indigenous tribe of Orange County, the Acjachemen Nation. She shared her award-winning stories, songs and personal heritage. All enjoyed joining her in song and traditions. We thank all who attended and look forward to seeing all next year!
